Several years ago, a friend of mine told me to start a blog writing about my life with my kids. I've always thought about it and quite frankly it was just laziness that stopped me from doing it.
For starters if you are reading this and have no idea who I am, my name is Nalani. I'm married and have two step children. When I started dating my husband they were 16 months and 3 and I was 22...or was it 23. I'm really not quite sure. I was young and surely not ready at all for the journey ahead of me. There were days where I felt a love like no other and days where I just could not handle it and I locked myself in a room and cried for who knows what reason.
Years have gone by and it has gotten...maybe not easier...but a lot more pleasant.
Let's just jump into it then and let this journey begin.
Maicah had a baseball tournament this weekend. It was such a joy to see him and his teammates play so hard. Although we did not walk away with the W I know that in the end the kids had fun and that's all that matters. Kids are such interesting creatures and to think we were just one of them before is so unreal. Of course they were sad afterwards, but no more than 10 minutes later they were running around and playing. Like there wasn't a care in the world.
The fun had to come to an end however and it was time for the kids to leave with their other family. It was at that moment I had a feeling where my life no longer and a meaning to it. Raising the children, playing with the children, just being with the children is the center of my universe. And every other weekend when they're gone I'm like a lost soul. They are the meaning of my being.
Tonight is New Year's Eve. Tomorrow is 2014. I get my kids in the morning!
